Overview
Many jurisdictions impose rules on how often a broadcaster can repeat songs, artists, or albums within a given time window. These rules exist to protect copyright holders and ensure fair rotation of musical works.
JaiCast's compliance engine enforces these rules automatically. When a compliance profile is active, the rotation engine checks every track selection against the profile's separation limits before scheduling it. Tracks that would violate a rule are skipped in favor of a compliant alternative.

DMCA (United States)
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act imposes specific limits on non-interactive webcasters. Within any 3-hour window, a station may not play:
- More than 4 tracks by the same artist (with no more than 3 consecutively).
- More than 3 tracks from the same album (with no more than 2 consecutively).
- More than 4 tracks from the same compilation or box set (with no more than 3 consecutively).
GVL (Germany)
The Gesellschaft zur Verwertung von Leistungsschutzrechten regulates online radio in Germany. Separation limits depend on the specific license type held by the broadcaster.
ARCOM (France)
The Autorite de regulation de la communication audiovisuelle et numerique enforces content quotas and separation rules for French broadcasters, including requirements for French-language content percentages.
CRTC (Canada)
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission mandates Canadian Content (CanCon) quotas and separation rules for broadcasters licensed in Canada.
CBAA (Australia)
The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia sets guidelines for community broadcasters, including Australian music content requirements.
Using Multiple Profiles
You can enable more than one compliance profile at the same time. When multiple profiles are active, JaiCast applies the most restrictive rule from any active profile. This ensures that your station complies with all applicable regulations simultaneously.
For example, if you operate a station that streams to both the United States and Canada, you could enable both the DMCA and CRTC profiles. The rotation engine would then enforce whichever separation limit is stricter for each track selection.
Audit Log
Every compliance check is recorded in an audit log. This log can be used to demonstrate regulatory compliance during audits or license reviews. The log includes:
- The track that was checked.
- The compliance profile that was evaluated.
- Whether the check passed or failed.
- The specific rule that was triggered (if the check failed).
- The timestamp of the check.
